How Has Having An Online Profile Affected You?

Oct 20, 2009 19 Comments by

Many of you know that I am in the thick of writing the next book with co-author Jim Keenan. It’s called “Online Profile: Asset of the Future“. You can read more about it here. (If you are coming to the party late, the last book was “Twitter for Dummies“, co-authors Laura Fitton, Michael Gruen, Leslie Poston – see sidebar for detailed link.)

As part of the book, we want to feature your real world stories of how having (or not having) an online profile has affected your life, matters of the heart, friendships, health, and career.

Did you get engaged on Twitter? Meet your best friend on Facebook or FriendFeed? Find a job online using your network? Start a company using online connections? Help fight a disease or fight for a cause? We want to interview you on how social media and the online world has touched your life.

If you study this trend, we want to talk to you also! We’re seeking industry experts and global thought leaders to talk about their research into this new online world and how it translates to the offline world in fields like psychology, sociology, medicine, science and more.

If you would like to be interviewed about your research or tell us your story, please comment below and we’ll reach out to you for the book!

    Hi,
Being online has made an enormous difference in my life. Friends, business opportunities, everything. It has really changed my life and not in a small way.

I just reviewed this post at StumbleUpon (it wasn't there yet) and that will feed it to Twitter, FriendFeed, Facebook and Delicious. I'm sure there are enough interesting true tales to fill an entire encyclopedia. The challenge will probably be in deciding which ones to include!

I've been meaning to thank you for including GrowMap in your blogroll. I really do appreciate it and every time I see the incoming links it reminds me to share your latest post or book status. I'll be back.

Casual acquaintances I've had with people I admire have turned into solid friendships and business opportunities – too many to count! By being able to have a human voice online allows me to meet (and 'vet') people that I would not normally get to meet in person.

having a profile has helped me:

    1) be closer to family and friends
    2) score clients
    3) get interviews
    4) develop JV deals
    5) create strong, lasting professional connections
    6) hire people

Having an online profile made me more aware of the activity that I was already engaging in online, quantified it and made me feel responsible for the image that I was already projecting. My online profile is a documentation of my efforts online and validates me to co-workers and clients.

    Dear Friend,
It’s a fact: if you want your website to make you money, generate leads or get subscribers you have to advertise in order to drive traffic to it. Of course this is true for any business, but it is absolutely essential for online business.
