Take Accelerator Classes on Job Hunting and Mastering Google AdWords
Magnitude Media has two classes coming up in the Social Media Accelerator Classes series. Both classes have the option of in-person attendance or online attendance. The classes are on job hunting (December 7th) and Google AdWords (January 19)
Leading the Job Hunting for the New Millennium class is Doug Ridley. Doug used the tactics he’ll be teaching in class to get the job he wanted when he relocated to New Hampshire. His fresh outlook on social media will give you a current set of tools you can use to land your dream job more quickly. You can signup for Doug’s class about job hunting on Eventbrite.
Leslie Poston, author of the Grande Guide to Social Advertising and currently writing Social Media Metrics for Dummies, will be leading the class on mastering Google AdWords. AdWords is a great tool for shareable ads at a low cost entry point, it’s true but did you know it also can work wonders for your SEO, for the quality of your blog titles and more? Leslie will show you how to write great ads and also how to leverage the hidden benefits of the AdWords service. Sign up for the class on mastering the magic of Google AdWords on Eventbrite.
We hope to see you there, or at one of the other classes we have in store for you in 2012.
Don’t forget! We’re giving the NH Food Bank 10 cents for every LIKE on Facebook until December 31, 2011. LIKE MAGNITUDE MEDIA ON FACEBOOK to put your 10 cents in.
Last Month To Pick Our Brains
For many years we’ve offered a stand-alone phone consultation service that operates as a way to have our knowledge and experience at your fingertips, as well as a few other ways to pick our brain. All of our mini-services are being retired in December, so if you’ve been procrastinating – now’s the time to jump.
We’ve been working on many improvements over the last month for you, which will roll out in the coming weeks. A new, more visual website (based on your feedback) and a laser-focused approach to the services we offer are just two of the many things you’ll experience.
We can’t wait to show you what we’ve been cooking up, but in the meantime, if you’ve had one of Leslie Poston’s half day sessions, a “brain on call for a month” package or a one-hour phone consultation on your wish list, be sure to get on our schedule for December before they are gone forever.
Simply Email us here with your name, phone number, company and which session you are interested in, and we’ll call you to book your appointment before the calendar is full.
Yes, You Can Pick My Brain
20 emails.
Two briefing reports.
One month.
SPECIAL NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS BEING RETIRED IN DECEMBER 2011.
This is the renewable plan I came up with two years ago for the micro businesses that want very much to pick my brain over a “cup of coffee sometime”.
It’s not that I don’t like you and want to help you – but you want to pick my brain for a reason. You think I can bring value to your business because of my experience and knowledge. You know what? I can.
So I decided to offer a way for you to get the help you need at a price you can afford, and it’s been working out very well. Some folks use one month of the subscription, some decide to keep the subscription active for more than one month. It’s like having my brain on speed dial for your needs. I debated bringing it back this year, but when I mentioned dropping the service I got a significant amount of push back, so it is here to stay in 2011.
Requirements:
MICRO business is not a euphemism. This is for the solo preneur or business being run by less than five people, mom and pop businesses, etc. For this package, smaller is definitely better, because you will be very hands on making these ideas work for you.
Working knowledge of social media tools (Already have a Twitter account, Facebook page, etc please – this is to make your business soar, not to train you in the basics. That’s what my classes are for.)
No social media marketers. I like to help real business do real things.
Skype account. It’s free for everyone, and lets me screenshare with you when appropriate to answering your question.
Intrigued? Subscribe with this button and get my brain on call for you.
NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS BEING RETIRED IN DECEMBER 2011.
The PayPal button below will be removed on November 30, 2011 and no further bookings will be accepted for this service at that point, so if you’ve been procrastinating, act now.

Help A Local Nonprofit Win With 50 Seats
As you know, I’m doing some classes in Lincoln, NH this month. I thought about how much I like to give back to the community I’m in for my class series, and decided to offer something of value to a local non-profit: A Three Month Business Development and Emerging Media Strategy Package with Magnitude Media.
How does your favorite local non profit win? Simple: If 50 more tickets are sold by this Saturday, March 12, to any or all of the four classes, class attendees will get a chance to vote for their favorite local non profit from a list recommended by the chamber. To keep it fair, I’m making all tickets available at the early bird pricing throughout the challenge. The voting will take place in person at each class by secret ballot to keep it fair.
If you want your non-profit considered for a vote, you should a) drop me or the chamber an email telling us about you and why you’d like to win the package and b) tell local businesses who support you to sign up for a class – this offer is only valid if another 50 seats are sold in the next few days.

The Value Of User Driven Learning Events Like PodCamp NH
One thing I’m often asked is why I add to my already heavy time load with the education events I bring to NH. That’s easy, I want to make it easy for people to learn what they need to learn, when they need to learn it. I want to empower your success. So I brought Social Media Breakfast up here in the form of SMBNH and PodCamp in the form of PodCamp NH (PCNH), I do a variety of classes around the state, and generally try to teach people as often as my time and budget will allow.
Some wonder if that hurts my business, offering ways for folks to learn on their own. Perhaps a bit, but it’s worth it to me to see my community become stronger from a collective effort to make everyone a bit better at being a business. Plus, I have the help of some fabulous people on each team for each event (check out the team pages on the event sites – I couldn’t do these big ideas without these folks – they are awesome). That makes it a bit easier to make everyone we reach a bit more awesome.
Why would a non-social media marketing wonk want to attend a PodCamp NH or a SMBNH? That’s easy – in addition to the connections and the atmosphere of learning at each, you are guaranteed to learn something new each time. With SMBNH I’m militant about not marketing to the attendees, and encourage people to let me know if they feel any of our presenters or organizers have sold to them during their speaking time instead of educated them via a clear link on the site sidebar and on the Facebook group sidebar. With PodCamp NH that problem takes care of itself thanks to the Law of Two Feet, one of my favorite things about PodCamps everywhere.
For the truly non technical, I’m offering a class at PodCamp NH in social media applications for the trades (construction, etc). I’m also talking social media and music and possibly film. That’s three classes right there that aren’t geared toward the social media marketer, but to YOU, and looking at the sessions proposed I see many, many more. Don’t see one you need but have experience in your profession to bring to the table? Sign up for PodCamp NH then go propose your own session over at the website. We’ll be getting a first draft of the schedule posted soon (though you should note, as a user driven conference, all drafts of the session are just that drafts – it is subject to great sweeping change even during the event as the users evolve what they want to learn in real time).
If you can’t spend a weekend learning (though it is highly recommended) you can try the two hour long SMBNH once a month. The next one is this Friday. And if you don’t live in New Hampshire, you can find a PodCamp in most states and several countries on the PodCamp wiki, or find your closest Social Media Breakfast by heading over to the national web site.
See you in class – let’s teach each other something new!
The “Pick My Brain” Experiment
I get asked several times a day to meet for “picking my brain”. When I do have time (which is rare) and get to help someone, I get told “You should make this a service you offer!” I tweeted that out tongue in cheek today, and the response via DM and email to really make it a service was immediate.
So, you asked for it, you got it.
NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS BEING RETIRED IN DECEMBER 2011.
No further bookings will be accepted for this service at that point, so if you’ve been procrastinating, act now.
The Scoop:
“Let me take you out to [insert beverage type or meal] and pick your brain about something” has to be the thing I get asked the most.
I’m flattered to be considered pick-worthy, but one of the reasons you want to ask me questions is that I’m good at what I do and that takes time (and time is money, so to speak), which leaves little time for the simpler requests. So many people suggested I make the request into a service, I thought I’d take them up on it. At the moment this is a limited time experiment. We’ll see how it goes and if it makes actually doing my job more difficult, or if it is something we all enjoy. See below for cost.
Tell me a bit about you, and about why you want to Pick My Brain. Then schedule one of my available appointment times.
Legal stuff:
1) This is advice only. I can’t be held responsible for you deciding to use my advice for nefarious deeds and schemes. It’s intended to help you be better at what you need to be better at.
2) Sometimes I won’t be able to answer something if it falls under an NDA. Some of my clients require these little gems of legal silence. I’ll let you know that’s why if this happens and the genie will grant you another wish. Er, I mean, I’ll answer a different question.
3) I can’t create an entire strategy for your organization in an hour knowing not much about how you work as a whole, what your goals are, etc. That’s not what this is for. This is intended for questions I *can* answer in an hour. Think ahead to what matters most to you to know RIGHT NOW.
I hope this helps you out and allows me to give some nice people the advice they need at a price they can afford and in a way that doesn’t eat my schedule alive.

Announcing: All NH Event Calendar
With so many events going on in NH relevant to technology, social media and other interests, I thought it was high time to implement a state wide calendar. Hopefully this will do two things: 1) eliminate conflicting, similar events on the same day or night 2) help people find and share MORE awesome events around the state.
There are a few admins of the calendar who can edit the events you post (Myself, John Herman, Justin Herman, Christine Major, Nick Plante, Kelley Muir, Ted Roche, Kevin Micalizzi). We can also help you post an event if you find yourself “calendar challenged” by the Google Calendar event posting interface. Other people can post events but not edit (Don’t forget to set your event to “public” so we all can see it before saving, and to include an URL for more info in your description! Make it easy for people to come to your thing!).
Here is the plain html NH Calendar link for sharing in emails and tweets and such
Here is the iCal NH Calendar link
Here is what it looks like embedded and reduced to fit a blog post window (you can grab the iframe embed code from the share calendar button, or one of us can email it to you – standard embed width is 800px, this is shrunk to 400px):
We’re adding some of the existing events this evening, check back tomorrow night and if you don’t see yours yet – ADD IT. All of NH will thank you.
Have fun!
Note: If you can’t add your event for whatever reason, any of the people listed here can add it for you – get us the details
Also, We’re getting a lot of emails about scheduling around school. We know parents will make it to these events if they can, and if not – there is always next month as many are recurring. We have a quite a few single and child free people who go to these various meetups as well, so there is a nice, diverse mix of people every month as schedules change and people’s availability rotates.
